– HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) co chair Selahattin Demirtaş vowed that the party members will altogether submit a petition to lift the parliamentary immunity, highlighting the demands and attempts to close the HDP in the tense political scene of Turkey.

At the group meeting of his party, Demirtaş said “People opens parties, people closes parties. Today the ones who had voted us the 13 percent might give only 1 percent; we would respect and consider our party closed. However until today, not a single court decision has closed a political party. The decision is yours. Do you ask for ‘immunity’? Then with 80 deputy friends of mine, we will submit a petition ourselves to lift them tomorrow. Are you in or out? If you do not fear of anything, let’s lift them altogether.

Demirtaş also referred to the July 7 election and said “The people have done its part. However a 'Tayyip Erdoğan' coup has been staged to the will of people. Currently, a civil junta governance has clearly seized the government and the state.

“Unauthorized, unlawful, illicit… Where do they get their authorization; the authorization of the decisions they have been making, which will drag the country to war, the authorization of the expenses misused of discretionary fund, the bureaucratic assignments of seniors?” added Demirtaş.

Co-chair of HDP slammed the MHP
“What happened to their words? Remember, weren’t the nationalist declaring ‘I will dismiss the ones who enters the palace (of Erdoğan)’? Yesterday they were bowing and scraping in the palace” Added Demirtaş, referring to the attandance of MHP deputies attandance to the meeting held in Erdoğan's palace.

Although all three opposition parties have long criticized Erdoğan over his grandiose and costly presidential palace, it was only MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli who approved his lawmakers’ attendance at the palace.

On the other hand, the members of the Parliament Spokespersons Board from two opposition parties have boycotted a courtesy visit to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan because it took place at the controversial presidential palace.

Deputy parliament speakers Şafak Pavey from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Yurdusev Özsökmenler from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), as well as these two parties’ members of the Parliament Spokespersons Board, were absent at the delegation led by Parliamentary Speaker İsmet Yılmaz.

Deputy parliament speakers Mehmet Naci Bostancı from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Koray Aydın from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) represented their parties with some other deputies at the visit July 27.
